Sublimation
Sublimation is a printing process where vibrant, full-colour designs are permanently infused into the fabric itself rather than sitting on top of it, producing a smooth, long-lasting finish that never cracks, peels or fades with wash. This makes it the ideal choice for businesses and organisations looking for bold, detailed artwork on lightweight and performance clothing.

Sublimated Sportswear and Promotional Clothing
Sublimation is one of the most effective techniques for producing vibrant, all over designs on modern performance and promotional garments. In case you need a quick refresher, sublimation is a printing process where dye is turned into gas under heat and pressure, allowing it to bond permanently with the fibres of the fabric rather than simply sitting on the surface. Sublimated personalised clothing is capable of withstanding regular washing and heavy use without the design cracking, peeling or fading, which is why it has become such a popular choice among businesses, sports clubs and organisations wanting bold, full-colour branding that lasts. Here at US Clothing, we manage the entire sublimation process in-house, using our own skilled team and advanced printing equipment to guarantee consistent, high-quality results on every order.
Key advantages of sublimated clothing (in detail):
Sublimation is known for delivering an exceptionally vibrant, all over finish, allowing designs to cover the entire garment rather than being limited to a single area. That alone makes it particularly valuable to sports clubs and businesses, whose teams often need bold, eye-catching kits or uniforms that represent their brand with real visual impact. It combines this key advantage with several more practical benefits too, most notably its durability. Because the dye is infused directly into the fibres of the fabric rather than sitting on top of it, the design becomes a permanent part of the garment and therefore won't crack, peel or fade in the wash, while standing up well to sweat, sunlight and other demanding conditions typical of active wear. All of this means the design will remain as sharp and vibrant as the day it was applied. Partially because of this, it's also frequently recommended for performance sportswear, such as football kits and cycling jerseys. The versatility of sublimation is another big draw. It's particularly well suited to lightweight, polyester-based fabrics, allowing for intricate patterns, gradients and full-colour photography to be reproduced with remarkable accuracy. That makes sublimated clothing a highly effective, striking and reliable option for teams, clubs and brands wanting to make a real statement.
What garments can be sublimated?
Sublimation works best with lightweight, polyester-based clothing. It's particularly useful for performance and sports focused garments, including football shirts, cycling jerseys, running vests, polo shirts, tracksuits, leggings and other activewear, as well as promotional items like tote bags and flags.
The vibrant, all over finish, combined with the moisture wicking nature of these fabrics, means that sublimated clothing performs well in even the most demanding, high energy environments, and will not fade or crack with frequent washing. That makes it useful not just for sports teams and clubs, but also for businesses, events and organisations looking for eye-catching, fully branded promotional wear.
Sublimation Process
For the first step of the process, all we need from you is a high-resolution image of your artwork, rendered at an appropriate size. (This ensures that it will show up crisp and clear on your finished sublimated garments.) When you send us your artwork, our design team will prepare it using specialist software, adjusting colours and layout so that it prints accurately across the entire garment. This gives us a print ready file, which is designed to give an accurate indication of exactly what your finished clothing will look like. Once approved, the design is printed onto specialist transfer paper using sublimation inks, which are formulated to turn into gas when exposed to heat. Each design file is stored digitally, so it can be used and reused as many times as necessary. (Contrary to popular belief, the amount of time it takes to complete each order is strongly dependent on the size and complexity of the design, rather than the number of colours used.) So, as soon as your design has been prepared, we will then send you a final proof, so that you can give your final approval before we go ahead. As soon as the last instructions have been confirmed, the sublimation process itself begins. This involves the printed transfer paper being placed onto the garment, while a heat press applies high temperature and pressure across the fabric. This step is crucial because it causes the ink to turn into gas and bond permanently with the fibres of the fabric, rather than simply sitting on the surface. Once the garments have been pressed and cooled, we just have to make a few final arrangements, and then we can ship your sublimated clothing to you. Simple and straightforward -- just how we like to do things here at US Clothing.
